Empowering Survivors Program

We understand that feelings of shame, feeling disconnected from one’s body, anxiety, and self-imposed isolation are just some of the emotional realities one might face.

Healing is a journey.  Learning a martial art mirrors this journey.  Through the path of martial arts a student learns to connect with their body, to be compassionate towards themselves and to honor their growth.  Self respect and compassion is the core of martial arts.  While your growth is an individual effort you will be supported by your fellow students, who are on their own journeys.

Northwest School of Karate offers free tuition for anyone who has been impacted by body dysmorphia, domestic violence, or sexual assault of all forms (including stalking).

We recognize the long term impact.

You are not alone.

To take advantage of this offer simply fill out the form below. You do not need to tell your story.  You are in control of that.

Let us be a part of your journey.

I want to express my sincere thanks for your patience and kindness with Isaac yesterday. His resistance is a result of the relationship he has had with an abusive father, and your patience with him is exactly what he needed in the moment, despite how he may have acted. I know you helped him through some big feelings he was having. Thank you.

Contribute to our Empowering Survivors Program

The Northwest School of Karate’s Empowering Survivors Program is a martial arts scholarship project which helps survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Our goal is to help survivors take back their power by connecting them with martial arts traditions to support their healing and well-being.

Research shows survivors who study karate experience improvements in physical, mental, and emotional health. In addition, 65% of our students step into leadership positions, including those who participate in the Empowering Survivors program. As survivors develop self-defense skills, their self confidence grows and reduces their anxiety. Our participants feel affirmed, respected, confident, and empowered. Northwest School of Karate strives to create a positive, enriching environment where students can learn to be their best selves.

Unfortunately, survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault would benefit significantly from the training cannot always afford the costs of tuition, uniforms, and belts. The Empowering Survivors program seeks to remove the financial barriers for survivors. Perhaps you know someone who could benefit from our supportive Karate community. We invite you to contribute even as little as a $10.00 donation to the Empowering Survivors Program fund.
